Monday 22nd April 2024 is Earth Day – Planet vs Plastics.
For the past 50 years, Earth Day (Planet vs plastics) has been celebrated annually, every 22nd April, by billions of people around the globe joining together to promote awareness for the health of our environment. Why should we continue to celebrate this holiday? Some people may view it as just another holiday, but with serious concerns about our changing environment being studied and addressed today by prominent scientists, politicians, and young climate change activists alike, some people are adapting to more environmentally friendly ways of living — every day, not just on 22nd April every year.
This Earth Day, do your part.
“We all can make positive change for this amazing planet we call Earth. The achievements of young changemakers can inspire us all to do our part to help create a better future”.
- Reduce your carbon footprint.
Easy wins include changing your commute or a part of your daily routine. Instead of driving to your destination, carpool with friends, take public transportation, walk, run, or ride a bike.
- Reuse and recycle your wardrobe.
Our wardrobes and shopping habits can have a negative effect on our environment. Buying used outfits, sharing our unworn clothing, and recycling or donating used clothing to charity shops saves valuable resources and is much better than ending up in a landfill.
- Plant a tree.
When we restore critical forests, we fight climate change and support biodiversity. Every tree helps.
- Support our Pollinators.
Worryingly, bees and other pollinators are in decline, but our gardens can support good numbers and a wide range of pollinators. Gardeners can make a difference to help reverse this decline, so planting pollinator-friendly plants and wildflowers is a great thing to do.
